Intervju prenosimo u originalu. Za čitaoce Kontra Magazina odgovaraju Rob, Danny, Mick i Gaz: 1) First off, there was a rumor about you guys coming to Serbia last year for the EXIT festival. Is it true? Did you get an offer to play there? Danny: Who Knows? 2) Does it come as a surprise having fans in Serbia? Have you heard anything about our music scene or festivals? Danny: We didnt know we had fans in Serbia. It would be great to one-day play for them. 3) A lot of people don't realize that you were in the band from the beginning. On the video for "Alright," its you, at the very beginning, playing piano on the beach. How did you start working with the band and why did it take you such a long time to officially become a member? Is it true that you used to drive the band to gigs in it's early days? Rob: I wasnt in the band from the very beginning. Danny, Mick & Gaz made the first record (I should Coco) using a session keyboard player & doing some piano themselves. I was initially asked to join them live, to play the early songs that needed keyboards. After that, it just grew into us making new songs together. No I never drove the band to gigs. 4) A lot of people see you as the person who influenced the new sound of the band with your keyboards. One of the best and weirdest bits is on "Marry." How much do you think you have influenced the sound of Supergrass? Rob: Thanks, I also like Mary. It works both ways; we all have our song ideas influenced by the band & we all influence each others song ideas. Any ideas generally become better as Supergrass songs. Thats the beauty of being in a band. 5) We've heard stories of how you've recorded "under a blood red sky" in Normandy, recording in France.... What's in store for the new album? Rob: I dont really want to say too much. You can call it superstition if you like. This time weve been working under Gazs house, in his basement. 6) In one of the interviews, Gaz was asked about his New Year's resolution. He said that when he was 30, he would quit smoking. Did he? Gaz: Yes Ive stopped smoking the bad stuff, but still have the occasional cigarette. 7) What's on the Supergrass rider list? Mick: Ciggies, & Beers Rob: & Bananas 8) What was the maddest thing ever on the Supergrass rider list? Mick: A cake in the shape of a ladies bosom 9) It seems that "Alright" defined your carrier as a band. You don't play it anymore. Are you trying to escape the goofy image you used to have and show that Supergrass can make different kinds of songs? Mick: You bet. Im too young to retire. 10) What happened to the sideburns? Gaz: I had to rein them in because they started telling me to do bad things & affecting my balance. But theyve never disappeared because theyre my musical antennae. 11) 13. How did you decide to use the "drum machine used by Sly & the Family Stone" on your last album? Gaz: Found it on eBay & was intrigued to play with that classic sound. 12) Hypothetically, if you would play your first show ever in a city (Belgrade, for example), would you play "Alright"? Mick: You seem to think Alright defines our carrier as a band. Ref. question (9) 13) Can you tell us about Beautiful Toy? Did Ed Combes replace you on several Supergrass shows? Rob: I liked Beautiful Toy. They were a little bit punk & a little bit 80s. No. 14) There's a nod to Adam Douglas on your website. Are you pop-culture addicts? Danny: Dont know about Adam Douglas, but Douglas Adam was part of our childhood. (Hitchhiks guide to the Galaxy) 15) How does it feel for the band to play "Caught by the Fuzz" now that you're all a little older? Gaz : Fucking great. Its like telling a story around the fire. 16) What is the story behind "Prophet 15"? Mick: Its about dreaming of dying & reaching a confused afterlife 17) Road to Rouen has an atmosphere of unease. Could you tell us a little about that? Mick: Id describe it as melancholic & restless 18) What are the plans for the near future? Rob : I prefer not to plan too far ahead. I just want to finish making the best album we can over the next few months 19) On the topic of exotic gig locations: after your first visit to the people of Beijing, is there any chance of seeing you in Serbia? Danny: Yeah, Hopefully. Well be touring next year. |
